Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR): Aortic valve replacement done just like angioplasty.
What is TAVR?
The Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement technique is a novel treatment opportunity for patients who require a valve replacement but are inoperable, or at an intermediate to high risk for surgical valve replacement procedure. Faster recovery time and long-term clinical benefits for patients are a few reasons for TAVR’s growing popularity. For patients who are above 60 or 70 years of age or not physically fit to undergo the surgery or prone to a surgical complication, TAVR can be a lifesaver. Additionally, the complication rates of a TAVR procedure are typically very low.
How much does the TAVR typically procedure cost?
Balloon expandable valve 15 to 20 lakhs
Self-expanding second generation valve 19 to 24 lakhs
Self-expanding third generation valve 25 to 28 lakhs
Aortic valve replacement 5 lakhs approx.
Bioprosthetic valve 4 to 6 Lakhs.
Why is TAVR beneficial?
TAVR is a minimally invasive procedure that repairs the aortic heart valve without removing the old, damaged valve. Instead, like in Angioplasty, cardiovascular experts insert a replacement valve into the aortic valve’s place, through a catheter or tube, which is inserted through the femoral artery (large artery in the groin).
